Florence News 4-26-12


The Florence and Friends Relay team will have a pancake and sausage fundraiser breakfast Saturday, April 28th, at the Florence Firehouse from 8 a.m. to noon. Everyone is welcome to come and support us and have a good breakfast. Freewill offering.

Moorefield will have a chili supper and silent auction Saturday evening, April 28th, for their Relay fundraiser at the Firehouse from 5-8 p.m.

The County Relay meeting will be Thursday evening at the Vevay Waterworks Building at 6 p.m. All team captains and committee people are urged to be there and bring your teams. Everyone is welcome.

Glenda Sullivan and Patty Chase are working on the sponsorship program for the Relay for Life. Please call if you would like to help support Switzerland County with your business or company and get your name on the tee-shirts. A $250 donation will get your name on the shirts and other ads. The more you give the bigger your name. They must be in by May 4th. Thank you. Glenda and Patty stopped in the Sunset Grill near Warsaw, Kentucky and met the manager or owner, Dan. He said he would donate to the Switzerland County Relay. He was really nice and the Reuben sandwich specials that day were really good too.

Glenda and Patty visited Loretta Westrick Saturday and took three chicken pot pies from KFC and a turtle cake for her birthday. We all enjoyed the party. Happy birthday, Loretta. And to Danna Lee Jackson Adams on that same day. Also in April, Sally Thompson, LoriAn Lozier, Melissa Duckworth, Bonnie Robinson, Ryan Brown, Betty Griswold, and all others. Also a birthday remembrance for my dad Scott Jewell and my niece Bobbi Ann Bowman Thomas.

Ivan and Dollie Green had dinner at Belterra Sunday evening in the Center Stage room for the big drawing dinner.

Elijah Green spent Sunday with mawmaw Deanna Green.

Martha McKee has had both eye operations and is doing very well.

Cabell and Judy McKee and Bindi dog were in from Texas. They spent the night with Gary, Renee and Dillion Deems. They spent time with Martha McKee. Martha and Cabell went to Carrollton Friday to shop and visit. Judy attended the Ryan Park wedding in Madison. Martha, Cabell, Judy and their friend Kim from Madison had lunch at Mo’s and Bindi dog got to visit with Martha. Judy and Cabell visited Denny and Diana Brown Sunday and they said it was a really happy and enjoyable visit.

Millie Coy, Gail Ann Clements, Kay O’Neal and Randy, Lorraine and Ryan Brown visited Margaret Lee Weidmann last week. Ryan celebrated his 31st birthday April 16th. Happy birthday, Ryan. Kay and Margaret Lee visited Denny and Diana Brown Thursday evening. Sharon and Dave Wilson and Steve Bladen visited earlier that day.

Roy and Bonnie Duckworth went to a visitation in Bedford, Indiana for Roy Allen. He was Kerry Allen, our good friend with the Person to Person Ministries at the Christian Camp Restoration Acrea in Hillsboro, Ohio. Ray and Bonnie and family attend the camp functions often and several from the Florence church and Friends attend the Family Camp each July. We send sympathy to the Allen family.

We were sorry to hear Judy Amos’ husband John passed away. He was a good friend and will be missed. Sympathy to the family.

We were sad to hear Avalon White passed away. Avalon was a lovely lady and a good friend. She will be missed. Sympathy to the girls and family.

The Switzerland County Homemakers Clubs all met at the lovely Aberdeen Methodist Church last week for Achievement Day. It was a great program. Betty Pavy brought her beautiful quilts and stories of how she made them, who she made them for and how to take care of them. Kathy Williams, Helen Hounshell, Arbanna Harris, LuAnn Schaffer and others had beautiful quilts. It was an interesting day. Then we had lunch. Those ladies at that church are the best cooks ever. It was great and the butterscotch pie was to die for. Thank you, ladies.

I’m sorry I couldn’t get to the ham and bean supper and karaoke Saturday night at the East Entereprise Fire Fundraiser but heard it was really good.

Faye Lewis’ company was Cathy DeBaun, Judy Amos, Alice Faye Whitham, Mary Lou Shaw, May Archer, Linda LaFountain, Evelyn Smith, Nora Gross, Irma Whitham, Sally Nay, Joanna Sawalich, Ron and Jean Sandidge and Glenda Sullivan.

Our get well prayers and concerns go out for Gayle Rayles, Alma Boldery, Paul Ballard, Geri Gregory, Wayne Lester, Libby Ray, Lou Wadsworth, Joy Briggs, Paul Chase, Betty Shannon and many more. It’s good to see Burnie Hunt doing so well, also Del Percer-Snook and Mary Lou Bowman recovering after surgery. Faye Lewis and Karen Nickell recovering after a bad fall. Barbara Banta is still doctoring and pretty shaky after an auto accident. Get well to all these and Bill and Stasia Wiseman.

Be sure to vote. It is your right to get the right person in for your party. Your vote counts. The voting will be different this time but should be easy. There will be a lot of help and several places to vote. I’m looking forward to trying it.
