It is really getting cold in Florence as I write the news this Monday morning.

The American Cancer Society Relay 2013 will have its meeting tonight (January 24th) at the Vevay Utilities Building on West Seminary Street at 6 p.m. Hope to see you there. Come and get on a team or bring a team.

Glenda Sullivan and Patty Chase met Roy and Bonnie Duckworth at the Morgan-Nay Funeral Centre for the visitation of Melanie Truitt’s mother, Joy Cable, of Milton, Kentucky Wednesday night. They also visited with Verle and Genevieve Truitt and Les Truitt and others. Thursday night Roy, Bonnie and Patty went to Morgan-Nay again for the visitation of Charles Cook of Cross Plains. They also visited with Leah Jones, Mike and Marlene Jones and many other local friends.

Ed Trinkle and Katie came in from Virginia for the Charles Cook funeral. They met with some relatives from Indianapolis for the funeral. Sympathy to the Cook and Truitt families. Friday morning Ed Trinkle and Katie met Ruth Lohide, Wilma Lohide and Patty Chase at the Java Bean for a nice visit before returning to Virginia on Sunday. We always enjoy meeting with Ed and Katie when they come to Indiana. Wilma had brought Ruth to the doctor that morning and got a fairly good report. She was feeling and looking better. They were going back to Ruth’s and have beans and corn bread with Carolyn Lohide. Get well prayers for Ruth.

Vernon Martin had a four-wheeler accident Friday and cracked some spine wings and was bruised up. His wife Corinne had outpatient surgery for kidney stones last Monday and is also kind of laid up. She said it was like the blind leading the blind as she tries to help him. Her boys are pitching in to help. Get well prayers for both.

Dorothy and John Duckworth and Kirsten and Kaden McClure spent a few days with grandparents Roy and Bonnie Duckworth while they had a day out of school. We always enjoy them visiting church.

Denny and Diana Brown want to thank Angie Handlon and Dave Wilson for taking them to the Cancer Center in Louisville. Also thanks to Herman Watteneaorger as he helps Diana with Denny. Other company was Sharon Wilson, Audrey Marsh, Shawn Auxier, Judy Bailey and Jimmy Leap.

Saturday night Mike and Cathy James took Richard and Leona to the Shrimp House in Madison. When they got there Danny, Missy and Luke James and Natalie James and Anthony Jones were there to surprise Leona for her birthday. Friday Paul James took his mom Leona to KFC for a birthday lunch and went shopping. Wednesday Richard took Leona to O’Charley’s in Harrison and met her brother David Stutzman for another birthday lunch. Tuesday night Richard sent a beautiful bouquet of roses to the bowling alley for Leona to enjoy and share with the bowlers. Sometimes these birthdays go on and on. Happy Birthday, Leona.

Irma Whitham, Evelyn Smith, Nora Gross, Ron and Jean Sandidge and Glenda Sullivan visited Faye Lewis. Faye thinks people are not visiting right now because of the flu and that’s a good thing.

Twenty people from the Florence Church of Christ had lunch at Mo’s to help celebrate Patty Chase’s birthday Sunday. Funny and pretty cards were enjoyed all around the table and everyone sang Happy Birthday. Mo sent out a decorated cupcake and the waitress and others sang again. That afternoon a beautiful dozen roses were delivered from a special friend. It was a good day. Thanks.

It’s nice to be able to travel that new Vevay Hill road but it’s easy to speed down it. Be careful.

Linda Brown visited her mom Janet Brown last week.

Gracie Holmes visited Earl and Traci Holmes on her school vacation weekend.

I had a nice phone visit with Jerry Chase Saturday evening. He just had heart stents put in and is okay from that but is to have gall bladder surgery on the 22nd in Wheeling, West Virginia. Keep him in your prayers.

Get well prayers go out for Kim Hambrick, Pete and Carolyn Lowe (flu), Jonas Keith (flu), Sharon Ballard, Jeff Peelman, Tonya Moore, Vivian chase, Joan Peelman, Dutchie Scholl, and the ones with flu and many others.

Sympathy goes out to the Wayne Wentworth family and the Kay Smith family.
