Florence News 1-18-18


The snowy weather canceled many schools and other activities. We didn’t get a lot of snow but it was really slick and cold.

Several friends and family attended the visitations for Harold Sims at Haskell and Morrison funeral home Sunday. He was Sylvia Byars’ dad and was a resident of Swiss Villa where Sylvia worked. She and Ken spent a lot of time with him. His family is in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, California and other places. They will be back in March for another memorial for Harold. Sympathy to the family.

Patty Chase, Glenda Sullivan, everyone from Lamb and many more attended the visitation for Jimmy Simmons. Sympathy to the family. He will be missed. Sympathy also to the Gary Cook family.

It was good to see Alberta Pickett in church Sunday after being in King’s Daughters’ Hospital for a few days with pneumonia.

Roy and Bonnie Duckworth met Randy, Michelle, Kiersten, and Kaden McClure at Cambridge, Ohio for a church leaders conference on Thursday and Friday. Roy and Bonnie made it home before the snow on Friday but Randy, Michelle and kids stayed over at Hillsboro, Ohio and had about 5 inches of snow on Saturday morning.

The Historic Hoosier Theater board members and guests met at the Ridge Winery on Wednesday evening for their December meeting and a delicious dinner served by Steve and Sam of Patty’s Reach. We missed John and Libby Kinman and others that could not be there and we send get well wishes to Libby. We have many good programs planned for 2018. Thanks to Steve and Sam and Greg for their good service and for the delightful atmosphere of the meeting room.

Our get well list includes Bud and Betty Hargrove, Sue Price, Carolyn Lowe, Alberta Pickett, Pam May, Margaret Lee Weidmann, Kenny Clements, Rod Dickerson, Dale Thompson, Doreen Taylor, Sharon Deck and all in need.

Harriet Bovard sent this news: The 75th birthday surprise party was a success. I want to thank everyone who came out son a cold night. I really appreciate all the gifts and cards I received. It was a really special time in my life. God bless you all, from Harriet Bovard.

The annual Edwards Christmas gathering was held at Harriet Bovard’s home on Sunday January 7th. Thirty one family members attended. We miss all who didn’t get to come. Huge amounts of food was prepared and enjoyed by all.
