Fire damages old NAPA store

Rising Sun Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at the former NAPA building on the 300 block of North High Street on Saturday, April 23rd.

The fire started at around 4:30 p.m. Chief Kevin Armstrong said there was heavy smoke coming from the eaves of the structure when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters got the fire out quickly. Damage was limited to the basement, There was smoke damage throughout, but the chief believes the building is not a complete loss.

Nobody was in the building at the time and there were no injuries. Armstrong said the building’s owner was in the process of remodeling it.

The Dearborn County Fire Investigation Team helped the local fire department in determining a cause of the fire. It was listed as accidental within the electrical system.

Other agencies assisting included the Aurora Fire Department, Posey Township Fire Department, Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio County EMS, Rising Sun Police Department, and RSFD Ladies Auxiliary.
