FFA chapter excels at State Convention, again judged among Indiana’s best

The Switzerland County FFA competed very well in State FFA contests held June 18th -21st.

The chapter had Kaleesa Archer and Matt Wegman as representatives in the “Big 10” chapters of Indiana competition. The chapter will now advance to national competition. Only the top 10-percent of FFA chapters in the nation will be competing for the top chapter honors in student, chapter and community development activities.

The chapter was also recognized as a “Gold Donor” chapter to the Indiana FFA Foundation. Funds to the Foundation were raised though the fruit sales project. The chapter was honored for the fruit sales as well.

In individual competitions, the Ag marketing team placed fifth with its marketing strategy to bring the production and processing of wines to Switzerland County.

Logan Henry chaired the project, with Amanda Hale and Aarron Woeste assisting in the 30 minute presentation.

In the Ag communication contest, Kaleesa Archer, Beth Abbott, Aarron Woeste, and Jamie Phipps competed in the top 12 teams. The extemporaneous public speaking was represented by district winner Jamie Phipps.

A team advancing to the National Convention in October is Matt Wegman and Corey Lay. They will be competing in the demonstration of zoology. Also, they will have a display developed at the Ag Career Show spot lighting the aquaculture project.

Corey Lay and Beth Abbott represented the chapter as state delegates. Matt Wegman, Daniel Welch and Brandon Otter earned their state degrees.

Kaleesa Archer represented the chapter for a position as a state officer in a field of 14 candidates.

Beth Abbott will be serving as the District 12 reporter for the next year. She was elected by the district delegates. Matt Wegman topped off the convention with a proficiency going to the National Convention in the aquaculture area; as well as being the named the Indiana State Star in Agriscience.

Overall, the Switzerland County FFA represented the county very well at the State FFA convention.
