Fall sport athletes are honored at end of the year banquet

Switzerland County High School wrapped up its fall sports season last Thursday night by honoring athletes.

Principal Dan Noel and athletic director David Todd welcomed athletes and families to the event, and following dinner, coaches in the different sports spoke about their seasons and presented awards.

– For boys soccer, Coach Brian Grigsby awarded the “Team Player” award to Nathaniel Christerson and Jordan Bledsoe; the “Leading Defender” award to Steven Craig; the “Work Ethic” award to Tyler Maxey and Logan Todd; the “Leading Offender” award to Josh Yeary; and Most Valuable Player award to Alex Curran; and the “Most Improved” award to Celby Kinney and Robert Pickel.

– In girls soccer, Coach Roy Leap presented the Most Valuable Player award to Moriah McFarland; the “Outstanding Defender” award to Laura Nay; the “Outstanding Midfield” award to Lensi Parham; the “Most Goals” award to Emily White; the “Pacer Award” to Lauren Haskell; the “Most Improved” award to Mercedes Parham; the “Assists” award to Bre Ricketts; and the Goalie award to Eve Galbreath.

- In boys cross country, awards were presented by Coach Mark Boggs. His awards included the “Leadership” award to Anthony Dennis; the “Pacer Award” to Brady Voris; the “Most Improved” award to Brady Voris and Talen Taylor; the “Top Runner” award to Braden Burk; and the “Rookie” award to Talen Taylor.

– Coach Boggs also presented awards for girls cross country. The ” Leadership” award was earned by Bre Hinman, Allie Mathews; The “Top Runner” award was earned by Bre Hinman and Robin Furnish; the “Pacer Award” went to Allie Mathews; the “Most Improved” award went to Paige Ridener; and the “Rookie” award was earned by Jaclyn Hart.

– Steven Konkle is the coach of the varsity volleyball team, and he presented awards to his players. The “Digs” award was earned by Hayley South; the “Kills” award also went to Hayley South; the “Serving” award was earned by Olivia Hewitt; and the “Aces” award went to Ashley Watson.

In jayvee volleyball, Coach Kayla Konkle awarded the “Mental Attitude” award to Vicky Abbott and Erika Coy; the “Serving” award to Jacqueline Hensley; and the “Most Improved” award to Olivia Pavy.

– For girls golf, Coach Mike McClure presented the “Leadership” award to Courtney Roland and the Most Valuable Player award to Susie Reyes-Trejo.

Senior Scholastic Awards were presented to Bre Hinman, Allie Mathews and Laura Nay.

Underclassmen Scholastic Awards were earned by: Vicky Abbott, Erika Coy, Robin Furnish, Mercedes Parham, Bre Ricketts, Lauren Edwards, Olivia Hewitt, Lensi Parham, Paige Ridener, Logan Todd, Emily White, Josie Giglio, Jacqueline Hensley, Amber Hoskins, Carleigh Hughes, Adeli Kinne, Nicole Leap, Michael Scott, Stephanie Smith, and Morgan Stamper.
