Fair weather for 4-Hers as auction set for Friday


The Ohio County 4-Hers couldn’t ask for better whether for this week’s Ohio County Fair.

The brother/sister combo of Jace and Kasey Leonard were named king and queen with Olivia Sams chosen as princess to open the fair.

Animals arrived at the fairgrounds on Sunday evening and were weighed in Monday. It was a cool day Monday for the annual archery shoot and other events. That’s a big change from Friday when opening night Flat Drags had to be canceled because of heavy rain storms. The skies cleared in time for Saturday’s Mud Splash.

The Parade of Champions, honoring those who won exhibit hall trophies, was held Monday evening.

Tuesday’s judging included the rabbit show at 8 a.m. with the dairy cattle, dairy goat and meat goat show. The Swine Show topped off Wednesday’s events with the sheep and beef show tonight (Thursday).

The week of animal judging concludes on Friday with the senior showmanship at 1 p.m. The annual Farm Bureau Pork Chop Barbecue is at 4 p.m. with the livestock auction at 6 p.m.

Final year 4-Hers to be honored include Kasey Leonard, Nathan Siekman, Ashley Yauch, Justin Kemp, Colton Henry, Justin Green, Jessica Koons, and Miriah Retherford.
