Fair closes with BBQ, auction

The 2016 Ohio County 4H Community Fair climaxes Friday, July 1 with the annual Farm Bureau Pork Chop BBQ and the Rotary Auction.

This year’s sale begins with the selling of the dairy champion milk followed by rabbits, beef, goat, dairy goat, and swine. Three of the final four to sale are feathered projects which were excluded from last year’s fair because of a bird flu scare. The waterfowl will be followed by sheep then finish with turkeys and poultry,

Fairboard president Michael Kirkpatrick said Monday that he has been pleased with the fair. Attendance at Friday’s Flat Drags was affected by an area tractor pull. While there were no local entries in Saturday’s Demolition Derby, there were 20 cars which was more than double the entries at the last demolition derby hosted by the board.

Animals came in without incident on Sunday evening, according to Kirkpatrick.

Remaining events include a fun day today (Thursday) as a mini-4-H picnic is followed by 4-H games.

Cow/calf entries are from 2 to 3 p.m. with the Sheep Show at 5 p.m. and Beef Show at 7 p.m.

Supreme Showmanship is at 1 p.m. Friday. The annual Farm Bureau Pork Chop BBQ is at 4 p.m. followed by the Rotary Livestock Auction at 6 p.m.

The Exhibit Hall is open each evening.
