Switzerland County senior Eve Galbreath established a new school record in the shot put on Tuesday night, and in the process finished second overall in the Bloomington North Track Regional – advancing her on to the State Meet.
Galbreath was seeded 16th at the Regional, but overcame those odds with a throw of 37′, which beat the old school record by more than a foot and vaulted her into second place overall, and earning her a trip to the State Meet at Indiana University on Saturday, June 6th.
Other Switzerland County participants represented themselves and their school well, competing hard but not scoring well enough to advance.
3,200-meter Sectional champion Whitley Schirmer ran a personal best time of 5:32.72 to place fifth overall in the 1,600 meter run; and both the 400-meter relay team of Moriah Northcutt, Paige Sawyer, Eve Galbreath and Brianna Vinup, as well as long jumper Megan Dasis also competed.
Dasis, a senior who has established an outstanding track career while in high school, was injured after her second jump, and could not finish the event.
Coach Adam Pietrykowski said that the 400-meter relay team was off to a blazing start in its heat race before a dropped baton ended the team’s season.
