The only contested Ohio County race in the May 8th primary is for residents of Cass Township which will have four republicans seeking the party’s three advisory board seats. Candidates are James “Sonny” Henry, Kathy Halloran, Neil Wagner and Raymond Kirkpatrick. Democrat Joyce Messer will be on the ballot for November along with the top three republican candidates.
Among the state races to draw locals to the polls is the race for U.S. House of Representative District 6 with Rising Sun attorney Lane Siekman among the six democrats along with five republicans seeking the post. Democrats include George T. Holland, Jeannine Lee Lake, K. Jasen Lave, Jim Pruett, Lane Siekman and Joshua Williamson. Republicans are Mike Campbell, Jonathan M. Lamb, Stephen M. MacKenzie, Greg Pence and Jeff Smith.
U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly(D) will await the winner of the republican primary which includes Mike Braun, Luke Messer and Todd Rokita.
Some races are already set for the November General Election.
Incumbent Sheriff Glen Potts (R) and former sheriff deputy and Lawrenceburg Police officer Doug Taylor (D) will head the local slate.
County auditor Deb Cappel (D) will be challenged in the fall by Amy Hamilton Hochstrasser (R).
County council 2- Jeff Rumsey (D) and Chris Flood (R) will meet for the seat currently held by Tim Adams; County council 3 incumbent Don Grace (R) will be challenged by Carol Stow Stapleton (D) and County council 4 incumbent Jeff Iceberg will be challenged by Myron Dennis (R). The Pike Township Trustee will see Hannah Burke (R) against Dennis Covington (D).
Commissioner Todd Walton (D) will have to wait for the GOP caucus to find out his opponent in the fall.
County office candidates awaiting opponents include; Commissioner Todd Walton (D); county councilman 1st district Tiffany Clark (D); Assessor- Ed Hautman (R); Surveyor- Wayne Stahl (R); Coroner- Cliff Thies (R); County recorder- Doris Young (R); Dearborn-Ohio County Prosecutor- Lynn Deddens (R); Randolph Township Trustee- Ethel “Sissy” Lamkin Potter (R); Union Township Trustee Deidre Helton (R); Cass Township Trustee Bridgett Bolling (R).
Randolph Township Advisory Board candidates are Nanette Williams (R), Sonja Keith (R) and Teresa George (R).Union Township Advisory Board candidates are John Wilber (R), Jerry Koons (R) and Kristen Earls (R).
Other unopposed races in the primary include: Indiana Senate, District 43- Clyde A. “Chip” Perfect, Jr.(R); Indiana House, District 67- Randy Frye (R)
In non-political races, the school board seats currently held by Gary Kinnett and Connie Smith will be on the fall ballot.
