The East Enterprise Sewer District Board of Directors will be distributing an income survey to sewer customers in the July billing. The survey is required in order for the East Enterprise District to qualify for financial assistance from the Indiana Office of Community & Rural Affairs.
Currently, the East Enterprise sewer plant is in serious need of rehabilitation. Switzerland County is under an Agreed Order with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to bring the system into compliance with the Clean Water Act.
What this means is that the system must be rehabilitated, and if it is not, substantial fines will be levied against Switzerland County and its residents.
In an effort to keep the project (and rates) as affordable as possible, the East Enterprise Sewer District Board of Directors is in the process of developing a grant application for funding to help pay the cost for the required work of the system.
It is anticipated that a grant application will be submitted to the Indiana Office of Community & Rural Affairs in the Spring of 2016, which is the earliest opportunity to apply for the funding.
In order to qualify for the grant, the East Enterprise Sewer District must document income levels of East Enterprise Sewer customers. In order to collect the required information and qualify for the grant, 100-percent participation is needed from all customers.
Survey results will be submitted to the Southeastern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (SIRPC). The SIRPC will compile survey results and will be responsible for insuring strict confidentiality of the survey results.
East Enterprise Sewer District will not be able to qualify for grant funds without the information collected via the income survey. Help is desperately needed from East Enterprise sewer customers to compile the required information.
Questions should be directed to Susan Craig at the Southeastern Indiana Regional Planning Commission, (812) 689-5505.
