This year’s Winter Homecoming was held last Friday night, and highlighting the evening was the crowning of Delanie Swanson and Garrett Demaree as this year’s Queen and King.
The royals were crowned between the junior varsity and varsity basketball games with Rising Sun, and were among six Queen and six King candidates from the senior class. Candidates were selected by their senior classmates; with the final court being decided by a vote of the student body.
Homecoming Queen Delanie Swanson is the daughter of Christy Caplinger and Darren Swanson; and was a four year member of the volleyball team. She is also a four-year member of FFA, where she has served as treasurer and secretary; and has volunteered at the Swiss Wine Festival. She is a two-year student at the Southeastern Career Center, studying in the electrical trades program; and is a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church and the 4:12 youth group. After graduation she plans on entering the electrical trades apprenticeship program at Dow Corning while attending Jefferson Community College in Carrollton.
Homecoming King Garrett Demaree is the son of Ed and Christine Demaree. After graduation, Garrett plans to continue his education as he pursues a degree in civil engineering at Purdue University, the University of Kentucky, or Georgia Tech Institute of Technology. Garrett earned status as a ‘Commended Student’ by the National Merit Board Scholarship Program; has served two terms as the President of the Business Professionals of America and one term as treasurer; is currently president of student council; and serves as the secretary of the National Honor Society. He is a four year member of the cross country and archery teams; a three year member of the golf team; and a two year member of the track team.
The First Runner up for Queen was Sydney Thomas. She is the daughter of Nikki Thomas and Rob Bledsoe and Jason Thomas. Sydney’s career plans after high school are to attend Ivy Tech Community College and pursue a career in nursing.
A.J. Covington was selected by his school mates as the First Runner up Homecoming King. He is the son of Brian and Carol Covington. A.J. is currently undecided in his post-graduation plans, but he is exploring opportunities in the field of law enforcement and emergency services; as well as pursuing a career at either Nucor Steel or Dow Corning.
This year’s Second Runner up for Homecoming Queen is Kinsley Griffith. She is the daughter of Amy Griffith and the late Travis Griffith. After graduation, Kinsley plans to attend college where she will pursue a degree in elementary education.
The Second Runner up for Homecoming King was Zach Howlett. Zach is the son of Angel and Ben Howlett. After graduation, Zach plans to co-op with Dow Chemical while attending the Jefferson Community and Technical College. He hopes to pursue a career as an electrician.
Other Queen candidates included: Rylee Hankins, Ariel Oeffinger, and Calleigh Powell.
Other King candidates included: Conner Bowline, Morgan Gammons, and Joey Hite.
