Dan Noel leaving SCHS

Switzerland County High School Principal Dan Noel has announced that he will be leaving the corporation at the end of June to accept a position as Superintendent of the North Putnam School Corporation.

“I accepted the job at North Putnam School Corporation in Bainbridge,” Dan Noel said Monday morning from his office at the high school. “It’s about 30 miles west of Indianapolis. There’s a little over 1,800 students. They have two elementary schools, and a middle school-high school that are separate buildings but connected. It’s a 3A school in size.”

Dan Noel said that he had his first interview on March 18th, and after that they called and asked him to return and bring wife, Karen. The couple then went and had a second interview with the board as well as a meal with the members, and he was offered the job that evening.

“We negotiated the contract, and then we went up last Thursday night and they had a board meeting for two minutes and 15 seconds and I was named the superintendent.”

He will start at North Putnam officially on July 1st after his contract runs out here on June 30th, but he is already becoming a part of the fabric of the school corporation, already attending sporting events and sitting in on interviews to hire a new football coach.

“We’re going to be going back and forth attending some of their events,” he said. “

As excited as he is about his new venture, Dan Noel also leaves with some mixed emotions.

“We’re going to miss here,” he said. “I had hoped that things would be a little different here, but they didn’t turn out that way. I have my superintendent’s license and I want to be a superintendent and I feel like I can do the job. North Putnam has made the decision to allow me to do that and we’re excited about it.”

Dan Noel had been a candidate for the Switzerland County School Superintendent’s position as Dr. Elizabeth Jones announced her resignation late last year, but the school board has now moved on and widened its search for prospects.

At North Putnam, Dan Noel said that he has already gotten to meet a majority of the administrators, as most were at last week’s school board meeting. He and Karen then attended a game at the school last Saturday, which gave the new superintendent the opportunity to meet many people from the school and the community.

Dan Noel finished work on his superintendent’s license this past summer, and North Putnam will be his first superintendent’s job. He said that he interviewed for a couple of jobs back in December as well as here in Switzerland County; but when the North Putnam interview went well and the job was offered, it was the right job at the right time.

As he leaves, Dan Noel also points to an outstanding staff here at the high school that he will miss greatly.

“I appreciate everyone here in Switzerland County,” he said. “The kids. The teachers. The school board. The whole community. You’ve got some great people here and some great things going on. I’ve been very fortunate to be a part of this for three years. David Todd, there is no better assistant principal and athletic director – I mean there is no one better. Marla Edwards, what a great counselor. The secretaries: Pam, Kim and JoKay, you can’t ask for better people than those people.”

A spiritual person, Dan Noel said that he relied on his faith in making the decision.

“At some point you put the fleeces out there and say, ‘Lord, what do you want from me? Where would You like me to be?'”, he said.
