Cross Country year ends at semistate

An outstanding season for the Switzerland County Lady Pacer cross country team ended on Saturday at the Brown County Semistate, but with only one senior on the squad, the future continues to be a bright one for Lady Pacer cross country.

Switzerland County finished 20th as a team in the strong semistate on Saturday; and wrapped up a year that included an ORVC championship; a runnerup finish in the Hanover Sectional; and a fifth place finish in the Bedford North Lawrence Regional.

Individually, Bre Hinman led the Lady Pacers with a 27th place finish in a time of 19:50.

She was followed by Robin Furnish in 108th place in a time of 21:57; Paige Ridener in 115th place in a time of 22:18; Allie Mathews in 129th place in a time of 23:08; and Halie Thomas in 146th place in a time of 25:38.

“This was a good experience for our girls,” head coach Mark Boggs said. “We want to continue elevating our program, and to do that, you have to compete against the best. With everyone except Halie returning next year, our goal is to get back and compete at a higher level than where we finished this year.”

Along with praising his team, the coach also had kind words for his star runner.

“I was really proud of Bre’s performance,” he said. “In most years, 19:50 would advance you to the state meet. However, this year was loaded with an unbelievable display of talent. She has one more year, and will look to advance for her senior season. We will definitely have that as a goal.”
