Cross Country teams vie at Martinsville


The Switzerland County boys and girls varsity cross country teams both participated in the 20th annual Artesian Classic at Martinsville on Saturday, competing with 18 schools.

Both Pacer squads placed seventh overall.

In the girls race, Oldenburg Academy won with a team score of 59; followed by Tri-West, Silver Creek, Eastern Greene, Bloomfield, Brown County, Switzerland County, Heritage Christian, Providence, Edgewood, Crawford County, Indian Creek, Cloverdale, Eminence, Monrovia, and Triton Central.

Individually, senior Bre Hinman placed 14th with a time 22:42; Robin Furnish was 20th in a time of 23:02; Allie Mathews was 36th in 24:49; Jaclyn Hart was 46th in a time of 26:08; and Megan Dasis was 56th in 27:16.

Also: Kenzie Dye was 60th in a time of 27:30; and Samantha Reynolds was 73rd in 30:42.


In the boys race, Indian Creek won the meet, followed by Brown County, Silver Creek, Eastern Greene, Heritage Christian, Crawford County, Switzerland County, Edgewood, Bloomfield, Triton Central, Eminence, Providence, Cloverdale, Oldenburg Academy, Tri-West, Lighthouse Christian, Monrovia, and White River Valley.

Braden Burk led Switzerland County with a 13th place finish in a time of 17:54; while Anthony Dennis was 35th in 19:01; Quinn Meyer was 38th in 19:12; Talen Taylor was 45th in 19:29; and Sean Oatman was 59th in a time of 20:05.

Also: Mikhail Cole was 69th in 20:43; and Dakota Taylor was 71st in 20:46.

In the jayvee race: Michael Douglas was 59th in 20:31; Charlie Reynolds was 131st in 22:45; Michael Scott was 151st in 23:37; and Matt Yocum was 159th in 24:00.
