The Switzerland County boys and girls cross country teams were both victorious Monday evening in a four-way meet held in Vevay.

Team scores for the boys showed Switzerland County winning with a score of 22; while Rising Sun was second with 48; followed by Shawe with 55. Lawrenceburg did not complete a team score.

Top finishers for the Pacers included overall winner Clay Meyer in a time of 16:46; while Corey McFarland was second in a time of 17:29. Tray Meyer rounded out a sweep of the top three positions by finishing third in a time of 17:50.

“The boys continue to get stronger each time they race,” Coach Mark Boggs said. “Weather has definitely been more accommodating this season; however, each individual has improved immensely since this time last season. This is a testament to their hard work.”

The Lady Pacers were also victorious, recording a team score of 28 to outdistance second place Rising Sun, who finished with 35. Lawrenceburg and Shawe did not have full teams, so no team score was recorded.

The Lady Pacers were led by two freshmen, as Bre Hinman finished second overall in a time of 23:16; and Allie Mathews was fourth overall in a time of 23:39.

Senior Beth Abbott was sixth in a time of 24:21; freshman Alexis Carfield was seventh in a time of 24:47; and sophomore Andrea Brogan was eighth in a time of 25:21.

Sophomore Halie Thomas was 10th in a time of 25:32; freshman Tara Hoffman was 13th in a time of 28:37; junior Catie Johnson was 14th in a time of 30:32; and freshman Caitlin Fairhurst was 15th in a time of 34:30.

“The confidence these girls have displayed early in the season has been amazing,” Coach Boggs said. “I am very excited with the performance of our senior Beth Abbott. She has been a great team leader and continues to run with an enormous amount of heart.”
