Cross Country teams in Artesian Classic

The Switzerland County varsity boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Martinsville, Indiana on Saturday to compete in the Artesian Classic invitational.

The Pacer teams competed in the meet’s “Class A” race, which consisted of 16 schools from all over the state.

In the girls race, the Lady Pacers had an excellent day, placing seventh overall.

Oldenburg Academy won the meet with a score of 24; followed by Bloomfield with 99; Eastern Greene with 124; Monrovia with 133; Tri-West with 133; Indian Creek with 144; Switzerland County with 150; Providence with 152; Heritage Christian with 153; and Brown County with 224.

Six other schools participated, but did not have enough runners to record a team score.

Individually, junior Bre Hinman finished seventh overall with a time of 20:36; and she was followed by Allie Mathews, who finished 24th overall in a time of 21:55. Both earned spots on the All Invitational team.

Other Lady Pacer runners included: Robin Furnish, 33rd in a time of 22:56; Paige Ridener, 43rd in a time of 23:30; Taryn Parr, 63rd in a time of 25:14; and Samantha Reynolds, 75th in a time of 27:38.

The boys team placed 12th out of 15 teams.

Brown County won the event with a score of 76; followed by Heritage Christian with 100; Silver Creek with 139; Triton Central with 150; Bloomfield with 162; Indian Creek with 175; and Eastern Greene with 175.

Also: Oldenburg Academy with 197; Crawford County with 206; Providence with 220; Eminence with 258; Switzerland County with 269; Monrovia with 322; Tri-West with 324; and Cloverdale with 360.

Switzerland County was led by freshman Braden Burk, who ran a personal best time of 17:38 to place 19th overall. He was also the top freshman runner in the race.

Other Pacer runners included: Michael Douglas in 54th in a time of 18:53; Quinn Meyer in 57th in a time of 19:05; Sean Oatman in 68th in a time of 19:28; Logan Pike in 71st in a time of 19:44; T.J. White in 72nd in a time of 19:51; and Anthony Dennis in 81st in a time of 20:27.

Coach Mark Boggs said that the Pacers also had two jayvee runners in the race: Dakota Taylor was 61st in a time of 19:05; and Chance Grubbs was 109th in a time of 20:27.
