Cross Country runs well in Invitational

The Switzerland County High School Pacer cross country teams traveled to Sellersburg last Tuesday to compete in the Silver Creek ‘Dragon Invitational’.

Coach Adam Cole said that it was the largest meet of the year for the Pacers, with 21 teams from all over Southern Indiana competing.

“Switzerland County got a chance to take a peek at some of their future Sectional and Regional rivals first hand, and we performed well,” Coach Cole said.

Outstanding performances by Whitley Schirmer, Braden Burk, and Talen Taylor, placed the Pacers in the top five teams in the girls race and in the top 10 of the boys race.

The Lady Pacers had a great performance as a team and as individuals. Their score of 150 was good enough to earn them a fourth place finish, beaten only by Silver Creek, North Harrison, and Seymour.

Freshman Whitley Schirmer ran an outstanding race to be the first Lady Pacer to finish. She finished fourth overall in a time of 20:12.

She was followed by Robin Furnish in 14th place overall in a time of 21:46.

The rest of the Lady Pacer squad included: Melissa Furnish 32nd in a time of 23:20; Cameron Ray 33rd in a time of 23:27; Audrey Kinne 67th in a time of 26:10; Lisa Leoni 74th in a time of 26:25; Anja Rotter 80th in a time of 26:50; Emily Campbell 92nd in a time of 28:22, Adeli Kinne 104th in a time of 31:09, and Bea Navarro 110th in a time of 33:17.
