Cross country has numbers, host “the Beast” for lone home meet


Rising Sun opens the 2016 cross country season at South Dearborn on Thursday, Aug. 18th at 6 p.m.

The shiners will host the Beast of the Southeast at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20th at Denver Siekman Park. It will be their only home meet of the season.

Coach Caitlin Sauerhage has more great numbers this season led by Zach Martini, a state finalist last season, and Trevor Levi, 2016 track MVP.

Adding to the boys team effort will be Matt Martini, Colton Henry, Derak Woystek, Josh Beyer and newcomers Peyton Bell and AJ Boes.

Th girls squad has 10 runners including track stars Kasey Baker and Lucy Carrigan along with Kora Powell, Jessica Koons, Kaleigh Mann, Kiera Mann, Carly Siekman, Brooke Taylor, Monica Theunnisen and McKenzie Ellegood.

After a five way meet at Switzerland County on Wednesday, Aug. 24th, Rising Sun will get a look at the state’s best in the Rushville Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 27th.

A three way meet with Lawrenceburg at South Ripley will be on Aug. 30th. Then there’s a shot break in the action before the pre-ORVC (conference) meet on Sept. 8th.

The remainder of the schedule includes invitationals at Jac-Cen-Del, Jennings County, South Dearborn, South Ripley (Pumpkin Inv.), Madison Courier at Hanover and the ORVC meet.

The ORVC meet has been moved to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1st at Hanover College.

Rising Sun will compete in the South Dearborn Sectional and Shelbyville Regional with a shot at the Carmel Semi-state and Terre Haute state finals.
