Switzerland County officials has hosted the Association of Indiana Counties annual conference all this week at Belterra Casino Resort and Spa; and on Tuesday night the Switzerland County Visitors Center rolled out the red carpet, hosting all of the delegates to a special evening in downtown Vevay.

All of the shops downtown were open for the visitors, who were brought from Belterra by buses. Each delegate had special coupons which they used to get food, drinks, and other special savings throughout the evening.

There was also music, as “Jerry King and the Rivertown Ramblers” played on Liberty Street. Kenny Guthrie and Friends also performed for the visitors.

There was plenty of other entertainment; as free carriage rides were available; and street performers on stilts; jugglers; and fire eaters were also wandering downtown to the delight of all. Information was handed out on the history of Switzerland County and all of the things to do here; and everyone was encouraged to come back and visit when the opportunity arises.

There was also plenty of food downtown, and along with the regular restaurants, the Switzerland County Lions Club was cooking on Liberty Street; and Terry Hall was serving barbecue at the corner of Ferry and Main.

Switzerland County responsibilities for the conference included planning; providing host gifts to participants; providing conference volunteers to assist with activities; providing door prizes; and promotion of the event.

The conference focused on keeping county officials up to date on items of common concern around the state; as well as educational, networking, and social events.

More than 700 officials attended this week’s conference, with attenders ranging from county government officials to state office holders. Many of those people took advantage of the opportunity to come downtown on Tuesday, as the streets were filled with people.
