County leaders: ‘Merry Christmas’

259

On behalf of the Patriot Town Council, I would like to wish each and everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Serving as President of the Patriot Town Board is a pleasure, because I get to work for a wonderful community and have a wonderful bunch of people to work with.

Board member Danielle Hutchinson is a big asset to our board; and our newest member, Janett Boling, has been one heck of an asset to our board and to the community. She’s involved in everything we do, and she is to be commended for her hard work.

The town of Patriot has had an exciting year, and we are looking forward to moving forward and continuing our work in the coming year.

Merry Christmas to everyone.

– Jim Caudill, President,

Patriot Town Council

The board of directors and staff of Switzerland County Tourism wish everyone a Happy Holiday season and a safe and prosperous New Year!

In reflecting on 2009, it was a challenging but productive and successful year at our offices. Switzerland County Tourism launched an entirely redesigned website (vevayin.com) that features tourism businesses from throughout the county. The new site not only doubled the number of Internet visitors, but also attracted new guests to the area.

By coordinating the efforts of many residents, businesses, and friends across the nation, we were named Budget Travel Magazine’s #4 “America’s Coolest Small Town” which landed Vevay (pronounced correctly as Vee-vee) on the national CBS Early Show. This recognition created the opportunity to be featured in many tri-state publications and broadcasts.

Teaming up with the Swiss Wine Festival we created the inaugural “Media Celebrity Grape Stomp for Charity”, attracting media personalities from Indianapolis, Louisville, and Cincinnati along with local entrants for a smashing great time.

Despite the downturn in the economy, the “Of Switzerland County” stores were able to increase their sales more than 25-percent, primarily through the great support of our lodging partners – especially Belterra Casino Resort and Spa – to help bring more visitors to Switzerland County.

Over 90-percent of the sales money produced by the stores goes directly into the pockets of local county residents.

With the combined efforts of our neighbors, business owners and community leaders, 2010 begins a new decade of growth and continued success for Switzerland County.
