County fair season kicks off tomorrow night with crowning of 4-H Fair Queen

This year’s Switzerland County 4-H Fair festivities kick off tomorrow (Friday) night with the crowning of Miss Switzerland County. The pageant will be held at the Switzerland County High School cafeteria, and will begin at 7 p.m.

This year’s fair queen will reign over the 2006 4-H Fair, which will be held from July 1st-8th.

This year there are 14 contestants vying for the honor of being Miss Switzerland County.

Here are this year’s contestants:

— KALEESA NICOLE ARCHER is the daughter of Mark Archer of near Moorefield and Tonya Krall of near Mount Sterling. She is 17 years old, and will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is being sponsored in the pageant by Swiss Alps Printing and Office Supplies.

Kaleesa Archer is active in the Switzerland County FFA chapter, and was recently elected chapter president. She has also served the chapter as student advisor and secretary. She is active in pep club; is student manager for the jayvee and varsity boys basketball teams and the cross country teams; and is the public address announcer for boys baseball games. Following graduation, she plans on a career as a professional photographer.

— MICHELLE LEE AUFDENKAMPE is being sponsored in this year’s pageant by Jack’s Landscaping, and will be a sophomore this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is the daughter of Bev Gambrel of near Patriot, and is 16 years old.

Michelle Aufdenkampe is a jayvee cheerleader; is involved in 4-H, where she is a part of the Junior Leader program; and is a part of the “People to People” youth program. She is vice president of her class; has earned Grand Champion awards for her 4-H projects; and is a part of the A-B Honor Roll. After graduating from high school, she plans on pursuing a career as a nurse or lawyer.

— ASIA BREANNE COVINGTON is 16 years old and is the daughter of Mark Covington of near East Enterprise and Christy Swanson of near Bennington. She will be a junior this fall at Switzerland County High School, and is being sponsored in the pageant by Don Covington and Sons Towing.

Asia Covington is involved in cheerleading, and will be a varsity cheerleader this fall at Switzerland County High School. She was a contestant in the 2005 Queen of Hearts pageant; and earned the mental attitude award in varsity volleyball last fall. She has participated in 4-H for the past seven years; and has earned numerous showmanship awards in swine. She is also involved in FFA and the pep club. After graduation, she plans on attending Indiana University and plans on majoring in early childhood education.

— MORGAN FULLER is the daughter of Henry Fuller of Vevay, and will be a sophomore this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is being sponsored by Salon 56 in this year’s pageant, and is 16 years old.

She is a member of the Switzerland County High School Dance Team; and enjoys making necklaces, doing hair, and collecting Disney merchandise. Following her graduation from Switzerland County High School, Morgan Fuller hopes to pursue a career as a cosmologist.

— HEATHER FUSSNECKER will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School, and is being sponsored in this year’s Fair Queen pageant by the Posey Pioneers 4-H Club. She is 17 years old, and is the daughter of Richard and Lisa Arnoldy of near East Enterprise.

Heather Fussnecker is the drum major of the Switzerland County High School marching band; is president of her 4-H club; and is also president of the student council. She is a member of the National Honor Society; Junior Historical Society; and the dance team. Following graduation from high school, she plans on attending Butler University to study pharmacy.

— JILLIAN MAY HAZELDEAN is 17 years old, and is the daughter of Jerry and Jan Hazeldean of near East Enterprise. She will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School, and is being sponsored in the pageant by “Hair It Is”.

Jill Hazeldean was the third runner up in the 2005 Miss Switzerland County pageant; was the second runner up and Miss Congeniality in the 2005 Edelweiss Teen Princess pageant; and was the third runner up in the 2004 Edelweiss Teen Princess pageant. She is a three-year member of the varsity cheerleading squad; and is also involved in FFA, prayer group, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Following graduation she plans on pursuing a career in nursing or psychology.

— CHRISTINA MICHELE JOHNSON is the daughter of Dale and Diana Johnson of near East Enterprise, and is 18 years old. She is a 2006 graduate of Switzerland County High School, and is being sponsored in this year’s pageant by the Center Square Champs 4-H club.

She was Miss Congeniality of the 2004 Miss Switzerland County pageant; served as captain of the Switzerland County High School flag corps for two years; and serves as the president of the 4-H Junior Leaders. She also served as a Junior Director for 4-H Camp this summer; and has been a counselor for three years. This fall she will attend the University of Southern Indiana to study marketing/advertising and pursue a career in advertising design.

— JENNIFER JONES is a 2006 graduate of Switzerland County High School, and is 18 years old. She is the daughter of Debra Jones of near Patriot; and is being sponsored in the fair queen pageant by the Shawnee Shamrock 4-H Club.

Jennifer Jones earned honors with UCA All Star Cheerleading; and is also active in her church and with her church youth group. She enjoys fishing, hunting, soccer, horseback riding, quad running, and archery. She plans on pursuing a career as either a cosmetologist or as an LPN.

— SYDNEY LEE PIKE is the daughter of Billy and Tanya Pike of near East Enterprise, and will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is 17 years old, and is being sponsored in this year’s pageant by G.G.’s Grill.

She was the 2004 Edelweiss Teen Princess; the 2006 Queen of Hearts; and was the second runner up in the 2005 Miss Switzerland County pageant. She was secretary of the junior class; is editor of the school newspaper; and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is co-captain of the varsity cheerleading squad, and has earned Grand Champion honors in 4-H. Following graduation, she hopes one day to open her own business.

— REBECCA RENEE ROMANS is a 2006 graduate of Cedar Creek Academy, and is 17 years old. She is the daughter of Billy and Nancy Romans of Pendleton Run Road, and is being sponsored in the pageant by Darren Romans Logging.

She earned the “Who’s Who Among American High School Students” academic award; has earned seven Grand Champion honors during last year’s 4-H Fair; and is currently the vice president of the Junior Leaders. She earned first place in the Area “Share the Fun” competition; and is a part of the Bel Canto Competition Choir; Young Voices of Southeastern Indiana; and the Presidential Prayer team. She is planning on pursuing a career in music performance.

— AMBER SATTERFIELD is 19 years old, and is the daughter of Clarence and Angie Satterfield of Searcy Ridge. She just completed her freshman year at Ivy Tech Community College, and is being sponsored in this year’s pageant by Satterfield Farms.

Amber Satterfield earned the title of “Young Beekeeper of the Year” for the state of Indiana; earned Grand Champion Apiary at the Indiana State Fair; and is a 10-year member of the 4-H program. She is vice president of the conservation club; president and vice president of the art club; and is a member of the Indiana Beekeepers Association and the Southeastern Indiana Beekeepers. Her career plans are to own her own music/venue business.

— KIMBERLY DAWN VANN is the daughter of Sharon Vann of Vevay and Roger Vann of near Vevay, and is 16 years old. She will be a junior this fall at Switzerland County High School, and is being sponsored in this year’s pageant by the Valley Achievers 4-H club.

Kim Vann was voted by her classmates as “Most Cheerful”; and has been president of her 4-H club for three years, and served as secretary for a year. She is a member of the Switzerland County High School choir; an eight-year member of the Switzerland County 4-H program; and the American Legion Auxiliary. Following graduation from high school, she plans on attending Ivy Tech Community College to pursue a degree in business, and also hopes to earn her cosmetology license.

— EMILEE WALDRON is 16 years old, and will be a junior this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is the daughter of Greg and Dorie Peelman of near Patriot, and is being sponsored in the pageant by Tom T’s Electric.

She is a member of the “All A” Honor Roll; and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is involved in the FFA program, where she serves as treasurer; the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; pep club; and 4-H. She participates in cross country, track, and softball; and is also a varsity cheerleader. After graduation, Emilee Waldron plans on attending college with a career ambition of becoming a plastic and reconstructive surgeon.

— KATIE EILEEN WRIGHT is a 2006 graduate of Switzerland County High School, and is the daughter of B.J. Wright of near Vevay and the late Dr. Jerry Wright. She is 18 years old, and is being sponsored in the pageant by Mo’s Steakhouse.

Katie Wright is the reigning Edelweiss Princess; and was the first runner up in the 2006 Queen of Hearts pageant, and in the 2004 and 2005 Miss Switzerland County pageants. She participated in the 2005 Indiana Festivals pageant; and was a finalist in the 2006 Miss Indiana National Miss pageant. She also served as an officer in the FFA. She is a member of 4-H, conservation club; French Club; and the pep club. She will attend the University of Southern Indiana in the fall to study to become a TV broadcaster.
