County examining flood damage

     Ohio County official signed a declaration of emergency during last week’s flooding.      Commissioners heard from Emergency Management Director Laura Walston on Monday that 10 residents were severely affected by the flooding along with  Camp Shore and Hoosier Hills Camp Ground.

The monthly dumpster day in the city of Rising Sun saw two dumpers full on Saturday, March 3rd. Among the items was a tourist chair that became victim to riverfront flooding.

     Commissioners heard from Emergency Management Director Laura Walston on Monday that 10 residents were severely affected by the flooding along with  Camp Shore and Hoosier Hills Camp Ground.

     Damage must be over $20,000 which highway superintendent Ron York said his department will have.

     The county has 30 days to complete its estimated costs.

     Walston was given approval to seek a $123,000 grant for radios.

    County attorney John Stroup reported he had been contacted by an Indianapolis attorney representing the ferry boat operator.

    There is an 1883 law which requires the commissioners’ approval. They are waiting on paperwork to sign.

    Dave O’Mara has been awarded the county road work for $719,775 as part of the Community Crossing Matching Grant program.

    Commissioners approved a renewal of a rental contract with the Ohio County Soil and Water Conservation District.
