Corey McFarland earns four blues, Pacers second in ORVC

Senior Corey McFarland capped a stellar conference running career last Thursday night as he earned four first places in the ORVC Conference track meet, but it wasn’t enough for Switzerland County, as the Pacers finished second overall.

South Ripley won the conference title with 125 points; followed by Switzerland County with 93; Milan with 75; Jac-Cen-Del with 71; Rising Sun with 68; Southwestern with 19; and Madison Shawe with 8.

Corey McFarland dominated every event he was in, winning the 1,600-meter run in a time of 4:41; and the 3,200-meter run in a time of 10:39. He also was part of two first place winning relay teams: the 3,200-meter relay with teammates Tray Meyer, Quinn Meyer, and Anthony Dasis in a season-best time of 8:54; and the “all senior” 1,600-meter relay team with Josh Hon, Tanner Ross, and Tray Meyer in a season-best time of 3:38.

Tanner Ross brought home the other blue ribbon for the Pacers, winning the long jump with a distance of 20′ 1″.

Second places were earned by Tray Meyer in the high jump; and the 400-meter relay team of Clint Swanson, Jesse Bailey, Zack Rodgers, and Anthony Dasis.

Third places were earned by Josh Hon in the 400-meter dash, and Tanner Ross in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; while Clint Swanson was fourth in the 200-meter dash and Tray Meyer was fourth in the 800-meter run.

Fifth place points were earned by Josh Hon in the 100-meter dash; Anthony Dasis in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; and Alex Curran in the high jump.

Thomas Crabtree was sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles.

“I am so proud of this team this year and their performance in the conference meet,” Coach Sean McGarvey said. “We overcame some early adversity to really finish up the meet strong. I cannot say enough about the character and heart of this team.”

The Pacers compete in the Sectional tonight (Thursday) at East Central.
