The Switzerland County community came out in a record-setting way this past Saturday in support of Colton Schirmer. Colton was injured in an accident while playing football on October 6th, and is still working to recover from his injuries. On Saturday, the Vevay Shell station, in conjunction with Hunt Brothers Pizza and the Pacer football program, donated 100-percent of all proceeds to the Schirmer family. The goal was to raise $13,000 to help cover the family’s medical deductible. When everything was tallied, the event set a record for Hunt Brothers, with 730 pizzas sold. On Monday evening, the Stephenson family of Vevay Shell, as well as a representative from Hunt Brothers, presented the checks to Colton’s mother, Beth Schirmer, and sister Whitley Schirmer. Hunt Brothers had pledged to double all proceeds, but at the presentation on Monday it was announced that Hunt Brothers was not going to double the amount – but instead pledged to triple the amount. Joe Stephenson said that $6,932 was from pizza sales; $5,861 came through donation jars that were set out on Saturday; and Hunt Brothers tripled the effort with a check for $39,000 – making the total donation to the Schirmer family $51,793.
