The Community Foundation of Switzerland County, Inc., recently awarded $92,700 in scholarships to students pursuing post-secondary educations. These scholarships were made possible by individuals and organizations that have established scholarship endowments through the Community Foundation with the intention of assisting students in furthering their educations.
At the June 1st Senior Awards Program at Switzerland County High School, the Community Foundation awarded $31,500 to graduating seniors. Community Foundation board members Debbie Allen, Karen Miller, John Sieglitz and Phyllis Weaver, along with some of the Foundation’s donors that created scholarship endowments, presented the scholarships. A list of the graduating seniors receiving scholarships at the Senior Awards Program will be publicized by Switzerland County High School in the near future.
In addition to the scholarships awarded at the Switzerland County High School Senior Awards Program, the Community Foundation also awarded scholarships to students already in college. A total of $52,850 was awarded. Scholarships awarded include:
• Baatz, Borgman & Hastings Scholarship: Nolan Armstrong, $500.
• Linda Lee Bennitt Memorial Scholarship: Cameron Ray, $500.
• Denny Brown/Jim Stultz Vevay Warriors Scholarship: William Pike, $1,200.
• Nelson W. Burley Memorial Scholarship: Kelby Rogers, $900.
• Miss Peggy Lorraine “Miss Kitty” Eckerty Scholarship: Brooke Todd, $900.
• The Fisher Family Scholarship: Nolan Armstrong, $850.
• Pete Furnish Scholarship: Alyssa Behrens, $600.
• Robert Furnish Family Scholarship: Nolan Armstrong, $350.
• Robert E. & Betty J. Hardin Hanover College Scholarship: Cameron Ray, $20,000 spread over the three remaining years of college.
• Guy S. Harris/Patriot Alumni Scholarship: McKenna Edwards, $1,000.
• Roger & Bev Parrott Scholarship: Brooke Todd, $800.
• U.P. Schenck Memorial Scholarship: Courtney Gullion, $2,500.
• Sterling Stringfield Memorial Scholarship: Laura Krall, $1,000.
• Jack Sullivan Memorial Scholarships: Destiny Brown, $5,000; Lauren Edwards, $3,000; Kelsi Konkle, $3,000; Laura Krall, $3,000.
• Switzerland County Chamber of Commerce Scholarship: Kelby Rogers, $900.
• Town of Vevay Scholarships: Chantel Ballard, $2,000; Rachel Whitham, $2,000.
• Carolyn Ann Turner Memorial Scholarship for the Arts: Alyssa Behrens, $500.
• Diego & Fidelia Valenzuela Scholarship: Rachel Whitham, $500.
• Carrie Lynn Van Norstran Memorial Scholarship: Alyssa Behrens, $500.
• Vevay-Switzerland County Lions Club Scholarships: Alyssa Behrens, $500; William Pike, $500.
• Leland & Aldean Wiley Family Scholarship: William Pike, $350.
The Community Foundation also administers the Shawn M. Barnes Memorial Scholarship for the benefit of a Madison Consolidated High School student and the John & Freda Bott Memorial Scholarship that benefits Shawe Memorial High School students. A total of $8,350 in scholarships was awarded from these two funds.
