Commissioners discuss sewer fees

  The Switzerland County Commissioners met on Monday, March 5th for a regularly scheduled meeting.

  Items discussed by the commissioners included:

    — One item on the agenda was the Moorefield/Bennington sewer plants. President Mark Lohide stated that it will be in the ordinance that the homeowner will pay for the replacement of the lids on the tanks in the owners yards. At present the lids will be $150. County Auditor Gayle Rayles brought the monthly sewer rates to the boards attention. Currently the homeowner is paying $30 a month, and the rate may go to $35 per month.

  — Mowing bids were opened, and McCreary Lawn Care was awarded the contract to mow the county lawns at a cost of $140 per mowing.

  — Grassman was awarded the landscaping contract for the courthouse with the bid of $6,200 for the season per year for the next two years.

  — The board tabled the item of a recycling dumpster for the courthouse.

  — The heating system is not working properly in the upstairs at the courthouse. South said he will talk to some local H/VAC contractors to look at it.

  — Indiana Restoration submitted a bill for $99,081 for the damage from the water break this winter. The commissioners would like to discuss the bill at the next meeting with the contractor.

  — Lohide informed the board that 10 county bridges were under water due to the recent flood. Nine of the bridges had been inspected and all nine passed the inspection.  The 10th bridge was still under water but will be inspected as soon as the water recedes.

  — The bridge replacement on Quercus Grove Road has started and the road will be closed for the next 60-90 days.

  — Dumpsters were being placed at several locations through the county to be used for the debris left from the flood.

  — Spring cleanup weekend will be April 20th-22nd.
