The Switzerland County Commissioners met on Monday, August 3rd in a regular scheduled meeting.
In matters discussed by the Commissioners:
– County Highway Superintendent Darrell Keith reported that the bridge on Bennington Pike would not be open before school starts. Parham Construction informed him that the bridge is near completion, but the guard rails will not be in until August 18th.
A change order for an extension to the project was approved. The commissioners also approved the request from Parham to haul off the existing rock from the bridge project for $5,000.
The highway department has started the “chip and seal” process on the county roads as follows: Turtle Creek, Poling Road, Little Hominy, Log Lick, Scotts Ridge, Tapps Ridge, Popcorn Ridge, Oak Ridge, Ivan Allen Road, Henry Ford, Drakes Ridge, Colen Road, Herman Road, Township Line, Leive Road, Waterloo Road, Caledonia Road, big Doe Run, Vineyard Road, and Long Run Road.
– A new vehicle will be purchased for Mark Archer for the planning and zoning department. The commissioners approved the purchase of a new 2016 Jeep Patriot in the amount of $20,565.
– The EMA Director position is open and the commissioners will be taking resumes with the EMA Board of Directors interviewing for the position.
– The deadline for submitting applications for the highway clerks’ position is August 14th.
– The commissioners also discussed applying for four grants to use for the purchase of new radios and generators.
– In other business, it was brought to the commissioners’ attention that Dr. Friede needed to be covered with another malpractice policy.
– The commissioners approved two new funds which included the sheriff’s pension trust fund and a special death benefit fund.
