Want to figure out how to pay for college or other kinds of post-secondary programs?

Dave Murray from the National Center for College Costs will be on hand at Switzerland County High School this Tuesday, November 10th to assist any Switzerland County individual or family in completing a College Costs Estimator.

The College Costs Estimator Filing Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and parents of high school students are encouraged to attend.

While some Switzerland County High School students will have the opportunity to start working on the online College Costs Estimator in advance of November 10th, the section that students typically have a difficult time with is the family’s financial information. Therefore, it’s important that parents or guardians be able to assist the students with this information. Since most parents have not completed an Estimator before, the expertise that will be available at the College Costs Estimator Filing Day will be invaluable.

To prepare for the College Costs Estimator Filing Day, individuals or families are asked to bring the following with them on November 10th:

• Parent and student tax forms (1040EZ, 1040A or 1040) and W-2’s

• Parent and student untaxed income information (child support received or paid)

• Parent and student asset information (cash, checking, savings and investments)

• Parent business and/or farm net worth, if applicable.

For anyone that would like to get started on the College Costs Estimator, visit www.indianacollegecosts.org to begin the process. Some portions of the Estimator include basic information and can be completed easily without the assistance of the experts available on the 10th. The online Estimator is designed so that individuals can get in and out of the program easily and do not have to complete the whole process at once.

The free assistance being provided during the College Costs Estimator Filing Day is being made possible by the Community Foundation of Switzerland County, with assistance from Switzerland County High School. If you have any questions about the day, please contact Melissa Andrew at the Community Foundation’s office at (812) 427-9160 or mandrew@cfsci.org.
