Colen sentenced


Lowell R. (Ross) Colen, age 43 of Rising Sun was sentenced in the Ohio Circuit Court by the Honorable James D. Humphrey January 27, 2017. Colen had entered a plea of guilty to four counts of Vote Fraud, Level 6 Felonies in the Ohio Circuit Court on November 4, 2016.

Charges were filed against Colen, a former City of Rising Sun Police Officer, in the Ohio Circuit Court October 22, 2015 after an Indiana State Police investigation of alleged voter fraud in Ohio County, regarding individuals who voted in the May 2015 election, that were believed to be ineligible to vote. Colen’s father was on the ballot in that election.

Colen pled guilty with sentencing at the discretion of the Court after a lengthy sentencing hearing, Judge James D. Humphrey sentenced Colen on January 27, 2017 to one year incarceration and one hundred eighty-five days of probation. Sentence was stayed to allow Colen to complete scheduled medical procedures. Colen was ordered to report to jail on May 1, 2017.
