Three seats on the Switzerland County School Board are up for election this fall; and as last Friday’s deadline passed for candidates wishing to file for election, the turnout remained small — with only one of the three races being contested.
The seat in Jefferson Township, which represents all residents in the township who do not live in the Town of Vevay, will have a two-person race, as Adam Cole and James Martin are both seeking the post.
In a surprise to many, current Jefferson Township school board member Jill Cord, who had filed for re-election, opted to withdraw from the race this past Monday morning, so the township will have a new representative beginning January 1st.
The other two spots will see incumbents continue to serve, as Craig Township’s Greg Bosaw and Posey Township’s Joe Bennett will be unopposed in November, and will begin four year terms on January 1st.
The other four members of the school board: Amy Combs from Cotton Township; Katie Collier from Pleasant Township; Josh Deck from York Township; and Tye Sullivan from the Town of Vevay, are halfway through their four year terms, and will be up for election again in 2020.
