Cold weather shelter available

Jeff-Craig Fire and Rescue, Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department, and the Switzerland County Health Department have joined forces to help county citizens this winter by setting up a cold weather shelter.

The shelter is located at the Jeff-Craig fire house at 610 Ferry Street in Vevay.

“Our goal is to provide a warm dry place for people to come to, in the event they have a house fire, lose electric, lose heat, or have any other issue this winter” said John Stafford Vice President of Jeff-Craig Fire and Rescue. “It is only a temporary shelter that will provide a cot, linens, and a shower. It is simply a place to go to get out of the cold until other assistance can be arranged, such as the Red Cross.”

The shelter will be available anytime the outside temperature is below 15 degrees, and also on a case by case basis otherwise. Local residents may contact the Sheriff’s Department at 427-3636, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, if assistance is needed.
