Clint Swanson sets new school record in 100-meter dash


A Switzerland County High School boys track record that stood for 40 years tumbled down on Tuesday night when Pacer Clint Swanson established a new record for the 100-meter dash.

The new record now stands at :10.85; breaking the previous mark, which was :11.05. That mark was first set by Kevin Scudder in 1973; and then matched by Rick Curry in 1975.

Clint Swanson established the record competing in a five-team meet at Madison, and came as part of an outstanding night.

Clint Swanson also finished first in the 200-meter dash with a time of :22.64, which was a personal best; finished third in the high jump; and teamed with Zack Rodgers, Ben Curran, and Chase Richards to finish second in the 400-meter relay.

Overall, Madison won the meet with a score of 113; followed by Switzerland County with 79; Scottsburg with 68; Rising Sun with 64; and Madison Shawe with 8.

Braden Burk produced Switzerland County’s other first place finish in the meet, winning the 800-meter run in a time of 2:09. He also finished second in the 1,600-meter run; finished second in the 3,200-meter run along with T.J. White, Talen Taylor, and Dakota Taylor; and teamed with T.J. White, Dakota Taylor, and Justus Powell to finish fourth in the 1,600-meter run.

Other finishes included:

– Second place finishes included T.J. White in the 400-meter dash; and Ben Curran in the high jump with a personal best height.

– Third place points were earned by Talen Taylor with a personal best in the 3,200-meter run; Ben Curran in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; and Zack Rodgers in the discus.

– Finishing fourth were Talen Taylor with a personal best in the 1,600-meter run; and Ben Curran with a personal best in the 110-meter high hurdles.

– Fifth places were earned by Chase Richards in the 100-meter dash; Zack Rodgers in the long jump; and Bradley Cox in the shot put.

The team returns to action tonight (Thursday) when it hosts a dual meet with South Dearborn at the Pacer track.
