Clint Swanson won Men’s Athlete of the Year honors to highlight the day for the Indiana University East track and field teams at the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference meet at the University of Rio Grande on Saturday, April 25th.
Swanson, a 2013 graduate of Switzerland County High School, is a sophomore at IU East. In Saturday’s meet, he won the 200-meter dash; took second in the 400-meter dash and long jump; and placed in two more events.
Swanson said he was pushed all season by David Sanders, IU East’s most recent KIAC men’s track and field athlete of the year (in 2013) and now a Red Wolf assistant coach.
“He has pushed me all year to be better and to even break his records he set,” Swanson said. “He believed I could do it, and we accomplished it.”
Swanson earned a spot on the all-conference team by virtue of top-three finishes in individual events.
IU East finished third in the men’s team standings and fourth in the women’s team standings. Rio Grande won the men’s and women’s team titles.
The meet concluded the 2015 season for most of the Red Wolves. Select IU East athletes will compete at the Billy Hayes Invitational on May 2 at Indiana University.
