The Switzerland County High School Class of 2015 will go through commencement exercises this Sunday, June 7th. Commencement will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will be held in the high school gym.
The program will begin with high school Principal Gregg Goewert greeting those in attendance, and that will be followed by junior class marshals Breanna Braun and Makenzie Mathews presenting the colors. The traditional processional of ‘Pomp and Circumstance’ will be played by the Switzerland County High School band under the direction of Jonathan Grice; and the National Anthem will be sung by the senior members of the Switzerland County High School choir.
Carleigh Hughes, Treasurer of the Class of 2015, will lead the audience in the Pledge to the Flag; and Class Secretary Amber Hoskins will welcome the audience.
Jacqueline Hensley, Class Salutatorian, will introduce honored guests and the class officers; and Macy Barwick, Class Vice President and Co-Valedictorian, will introduce this year’s Baccalaureate speaker.
Providing the Baccalaureate address this year is Ron Lee, Pastor of Switzerland Baptist Church in Vevay.
Following those remarks, Class President Jaclyn Hart will recognize retiring faculty; and also give the prayer of invocation.
Switzerland County High School Director of Guidance Marla Edwards will recognize those who have earned academic honors; and also those who have attained National Honor Society recognition at the Southeastern Career Center. She will also introduce the Top Ten members of the senior class.
Teacher Valerie Smith will introduce the members of the National Honor Society; and Principal Goewert and Guidance Director Edwards will introduce the class’s Co-Valedictorians and the Class Salutatorian.
David Todd, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director, will then introduce the first of the two Valedictorians. He will introduce Macy Barwick, who will provide the first Valedictorian address.
Teacher Peggy Higgins will then introduce Co-Valedictorian Adeli Kinne, who will provide the second Valedictorian address.
Switzerland County School Superintendent Michael Jones will then certify the class as meeting the requirements for graduation; and he will present the class and confer the diplomas.
The benediction for the ceremony will be given by Senior Class Committee Member Nora Yazell; and Class President Hart will lead her fellow graduates in the turning of the tassels while the class song plays.
The band will then play the Recessional as the new graduates file out of the gymnasium.
There are 105 members of this year’s graduating class.
