Rising Sun city council passed a resolution on Thursday, June 7 to seek request for proposals to lease riverfront property to blend with the city’s concept plan for the Riverfront park.
The business would provide docking, fuel and restaurant to boat traffic.
Mayor Brent Bascom and project manager Mike Northcutt will put together the request for proposals.
Council adopted the Ohio County all-hazard Mitigation plan.
Rising Sun city council approved a $24,000 over run to close out its part of Community Crossing Grant paving and sidewalk work.
The work was done by Dave O’Mara. The original cost was $633,065.80 but the final bill came in at $657,181.51. The city’s portion of the cost was $182,382.16.
Council discussed a golf cart accident with police chief David Hewitt.
Th incident occurred on Sunday, May 27 when a juvenile with a probationary license was driving a golf cart.

Belinda Schraeder and Mikal Murray tell stories about the over 100 Side Cars in Rising Sun over the weekend. The United Sidecar Association’s 40th National Sidecar Rally was held at Little Farm on the River Campground June 14-16. The rally included variety of cars, old and new, and were on display during Rising Sun’s Cruise in on Friday. Live music featuring Chuck Brisbin and the Tuna Project. Many of the visitors to the community took time to eat and local restaurants.


The city’s ordinance requires a person to be 16 years of age and have a valid driver’s license or a state of Indiana photo identification card.
It allows for 15 year olds to operate the golf cart if accompanied by a licensed 18-year old.

Dr. Christopher Walcott met with council to give an update on the Medical Center which is under operation as HighPoint Health (formerly Dearborn County Hospital). Sheri Roberts and Susan Craig are nurse practitioners.
In medical matters, council discussed a cologuard test to be covered by its insurance when it is recommended instead of colostomy. The test could cost $500-$600 compared to $5000-$6000 for the colostomy, noted clerk treasurer Rae Gipson. The test can sere as an alert, she added.
Jim Cutter reported to council about how he is working to resolve issues of vehicles on his Margaret Street property.
In other business, LifeTime Resources submitted its annual request for continued funding which council will work with at budget time.
Deb Brightwell was named to the Oho County Community Foundation. Amy Martin was named to replace Tom McKay on the Rising Sun Ohio County First board. Pete Johns will take over as zoning attorney.
Donations in memory of Shirley Koons and Joe Kendrick in honor of councilman Swede Colen and grant-writer Bryce Kendrick.
