Christmas season begins with Santa arriving Friday

Santa Claus is scheduled to arrive in downtown Rising Sun, by Mac’s Seaplane Service on Friday, Dec. 1st at 5 p.m. at Rising Sun Riverfront Park on Front Street. In case of unsafe weather or river conditions, Santa will arrive by fire truck.

Santa will walk to the City’s Pavilion and be welcomed with music performed by the Rising Sun Shiner Pride Band as he lights the official Christmas tree.

Moving on to the Pendleton Art Center located at 201 Main Street, Santa will talk with youths and pose for free photographs. While waiting on pictures, youths can decorate Tandy’s sugar cookies and meet and greet performers from Cincinnati’s Kinderballet.

Santa will remain at the Pendleton Art Center until 7:00 p.m.

Rising Sun/Ohio County Tourism will be hosting Santa and Mrs. Claus from 4:00 -6:00 p.m. on three Saturdays in December.

The couple will appear outdoors inside the Santa House located at the Visitors Center at 100 S. Walnut Street in Rising Sun on Saturday, December 2; Saturday, December 9; and Saturday, December 16. Free hot chocolate and sugar cookies will be served.

Youth Make-It, Take-It crafts and a life-size Candy Land board game activity will be offered at the Pendleton Art Center at 201 Main Street on the same dates from 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Participants can start at the Visitors Center and move to the Pendleton or vice versa.

The Conductors of Southeastern Indiana will present their Fifth Annual model Christmas Train Show at Heritage Hall on November 18-December 31.

Cincinnati’s Kinderballet will perform at the Rising Sun Senior Center on Saturday, Dec. 2nd from 3-4 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

The annual Santa photo night sponsored by the Lions Club will be Wednesday, Dec. 5th at the Schroeder Building at the Rising Sun Fairgrounds. It had been at the Rising Sun Senior Building in past years.
