Switzerland County junior Christina Ahaus established a new school record in the shot put while competing on Tuesday night in the IHSAA Girls Track Sectional at Franklin County High School.

Her distance of 35’6″ broke the existing school record and also established a new personal best for the Lady Pacer, and it also earned her fourth place in the Sectional – which advances her to next week’s Regional at Shelbyville.

“Christina threw awesome at the sectional,” head coach Adam Dennis said. “She broke her former school record twice; and it will be really exciting to watch her throw at Shelbyville next Tuesday.”

Switzerland County also got seventh place finishes from Maggie Armstrong in the discus (94’5″); and from the 3,200-meter relay team of Amber Meli, Halie Thomas, Shana Todd, and Becca Sittloh (12:04.42).

Although they didn’t place in the sectional, Switzerland County also had some outstanding personal performances on Tuesday night.

Halie Thomas established a new personal best in the 3,200-meter run by nearly 30-seconds; Laci Daugherty jumped a personal best 4’8″ in the high jump; Maggie Armstrong ran a personal best of :29.32 in the 200-meter dash; and Becca Sittloh ran a personal best time of 2:53 in the 800-meter run.

East Central won the Sectional with a team score of 149 1/2; followed by Greensburg with 84; Batesville with 65; South Dearborn with 64; Franklin County with 62 1/2; North Decatur with 57; Jac-Cen-Del with 40 1/2; Lawrenceburg with 23; South Decatur with 22 1/2; Oldenburg with 17; Milan with 13; South Ripley with 11; Switzerland County with 9; and Rising Sun with 6.
