Chipman, Eldridge earn Sectional track titles


Rising Sun had an outstanding night at last week’s IHSAA Track Sectional, with several members of the Shiner team advancing to the Regional; with Shiners Whitney Chipman and Zach Martini advanced to regional track action in two events each.

- In the Girls Sectional:

Chipman won the shot put (37’5″) and discus (108’9″) in the girls track sectional on Tuesday at Franklin County.

Rising Sun’s 3,200-meter relay team of Kasey Baker, Bailey Baker, Kinzie Scott and Erin Webb qualified for the regional with a fourth place finish (11:02.43).

The Lady Shiners scored 25 points to place ninth in the meet won by East Central 135.

– In the boys Sectional:

Martini placed second in the 1,600-meter run (4:44.75) and the 3,200-meter run (10:14.83); as Rising Sun placed sixth with 43 points in the boys sectional on Thursday at East Central.

Derrick Eldridge was champion in the discus (142/7″) on his final throw; and placed eighth in the shot put (41′ 1/2″).

Claudio Gallegos advanced to tonight’s regional at Connersville with a third place in the 800-meter run (2:08.11).

Matt Yocum was the fourth Shiner to advance with a fourth in the 200-meter dash (:23.61).

Rising Sun picked up a seventh place by Andrew Koons in the high jump (5’4″); and the 3,200-meter relay team of Matt Martini, Colton Henry, Zach Martini and Gallegos (9:20.9)

Batesville won the team title with 132.
