Challengers win school board seats


Two newcomers have been elected to the Rising Sun Ohio County Community School Board of Trustees in the Tuesday, Nov. 8th Ohio County General Election.

Renee Cole and Andrea Kirkpatrick defeated incumbents Missy Morris and Billy Hayes.

Cole, a recently retired teacher from the Ohio County Elementary Middle School, amassed the largest margain of victory 71.64 percent to 28.56 percent for Morris in the school district 2 race. The vote was 1,748 to 692.

Kirkpatrik claimed 59.75 prcent of the vote to 40.25 percent for Hayes in district 3. Hayes lost by 486 votes.

The total ballots cast were 2,988 but only 2,492 votes were cast in the school board vote. That’s 546 votes not cast for school board.

There were 803 sraight party tickets cast which suggests that only 257 of the party ticket voters did not go on to vote in the indivudal races.

Cole and Kirkpatrick will join Corey Potts, Connie Smith and Gary Kinnett on the five member school board.

Potts ran unopposed for the district one seat.
