Mike Jones, chairman of the Switzerland County Democratic Central Committee, has announced the date and time of an upcoming party caucus.

The caucus is being held so that the party officials can name a replacement for County Commissioner Robbie Smith, who passed away recently.

Mike Jones said that the caucus will be held on Monday, November 28th, at the Switzerland County Courthouse. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The new commissioner will fill out the remainder of Robbie Smith’s term, which runs through December 31st, 2014.

The deadline to file was Wednesday, November 23rd, at 3:30 p.m.

The new commissioner will be elected by a vote of the 12 Democratic Precinct Committeemen.

To be eligible for the office, a candidate must be a registered voter, and must reside in either Cotton or Pleasant Township.

This is a Democratic appointment, since Robbie Smith was a Democrat.

As of press time, there had been seven candidates file: Steve Auxier, Glenn Bovard, Todd Chase, Mark Lohide, Chris See, Rachel Schuler, and Jim Wingate.

Richard Lock had filed last week, but has since withdrawn his candidacy.

The caucus is open to the public for viewing.
