Switzerland County ‘Relay for Life’ raises more than $23,000 for cancer research

They wore bright red shirts as they made their way around the track at Switzerland County High School on Friday evening. Some carried banners. Others moved slowly with the assistance from loved ones. No matter the speed, all are warriors in the battle against cancer.

Laura Hoskins is crowned Queen of the 2005 Switzerland County 4-H Fair

The Switzerland County 4-H Fair held its Fair Queen pageant on Friday night at Switzerland County High School. Laura Hoskins was selected as this year’s Queen from a field of 14 contestants, and will reign over this year’s fair, which is scheduled for July 2nd-9th.

This year’s Switzerland County 4-H Fair will be held from July 2nd-9th, and with all of the new events and activities going on, this year’s fair will kick off with one of the most traditional of events — the crowning of the 4-H Fair Queen.

Plenty of new events and activities are set at this year’s Swiss Wine Festival

Once again the Swiss Wine Festival Board of Directors has worked hard all year to make the 34th Swiss Wine Festival the biggest and best festival ever.

The Swiss Wine Festival Board of Directors is made up of 14 volunteers who meet twice a month year around to plan the festival each year. In addition there are over 25 chairpersons who are responsible for different events during the festival.

‘Main Street’ designation for Vevay will help with community beauty

A group of volunteers in Vevay have begun the process of applying to make Vevay a part of the Indiana “Main Street” program.

The purpose of the “Main Street” program is to encourage economic development and redevelopment in the downtown areas of Indiana towns and cities.

Norman Brown, businessman and civic leader, passes away

Switzerland County lost one of its beloved sons early Sunday morning when Norman Brown passed away at Jewish Hospital in Louisville after suffering from heart problems. He was 83 years old.

Memorial Day observance draws large crowd to Veterans Memorial at courthouse

Switzerland County honored its fallen veterans on Monday with a special ceremony held at the Veterans Memorial on the lawn of the Switzerland County Courthouse.
