Keith Smith takes over presidency of Vevay Town Council

The three members of the Vevay Town Council have divided their four-year term into three 16-month terms, with each member of the board assuming the presidency of the board for one of those terms.

County Visitors Center now open at location on Main Street

The Visitors Center has moved.

The Switzerland County Visitors Center is now officially open at 128 West Main Street in Vevay. The staff of the Visitors Center is very excited about the “new space”, and they think you will be, too.

New Recycling Center is now open in East Enterprise

The Southeastern Indiana Solid Waste District, in cooperation with Switzerland and Ohio county officials, have officially opened a recycling center at the former Plastic Moldings factory in East Enterprise.

Daylight Savings Time will begin in 2006

After some last-minute maneuvering, the Indiana General Assembly last week voted to implement Daylight Savings Time in Indiana.

The time switch will occur on the first Sunday in April, 2006. For the remainder of this year, the state will remain as it has been — with people talking about “slow time” and “fast time”.

Superintendent is finalist at Shelbyville

Switzerland County School Superintendent Tracy Caddell confirmed this week that he is a finalist for the superintendent’s position at the Shelbyville Central School Corporation in Shelby County, Indiana.

Vietnam 30 years later: Switzerland County veterans share their memories of war

Thirty years ago this past weekend, the Vietnam War officially came to an end with the evacuation of the U.S. Embassy in Saigon. Thirty years ago the most controversial war in American history came to a close; and now, 30 years later, residents of Switzerland County who are veterans of that war still recall memories and images of war.

Workers busily move in and out of the new Switzerland County jail and the addition to the Switzerland County Courthouse. Last week’s summer weather has given way to cold, wintry weather again, and project superintendent Tom Westerman is analyzing the weather as he plans the next steps in the construction.

Vevay Town Council discusses Farmers Market, parking, and town ditches

It was a long and busy meeting Monday night for the Vevay Town Council, as members took up many different concerns from members of the community.

Rosemary Bovard came to the town council to discuss the policies involving the Farmers Market at the corner of Main and Main Cross streets at the courthouse.
