Vevay Town Council discusses Farmers Market, parking, and town ditches

It was a long and busy meeting Monday night for the Vevay Town Council, as members took up many different concerns from members of the community.

Rosemary Bovard came to the town council to discuss the policies involving the Farmers Market at the corner of Main and Main Cross streets at the courthouse.

‘A Man Called Peter’ set at the Hoosier Theater this weekend

The Historic Hoosier Theater in Vevay will present the play “A Man Called Peter”, for three performances this weekend, April 22nd-24th.

‘Footloose’ is theme of choral musical event at high school

The Switzerland County High School show choir and choir will present “Footloose” on Friday night, April 29th, as a part of the annual “Soup, Salad, and Song” event.

Switzerland County High School held its prom Saturday night at General Butler State Park in Carrollton. Ryan Owings and Brittany Cole were crowned as the Prom King and Queen.

Council continues discussions on riverboat funds

The Indiana General Assembly is still considering legislation that would redirect riverboat casino revenues from counties such as Switzerland County and instead keep those funds in state accounts; and at Saturday’s meeting of the Switzerland County Council, a crowd of about 20 people came to discuss a plan of action.

Fight continues to save Riverboat funds

The committee votes have been close, but as the Indiana legislature continues its discussions on topics such as the state budget and Daylight Savings Time — the possibility of Switzerland County losing a large chunk of its riverboat revenues is still very real.

Elnora Gregory: county woman finds ancestral link to George Washington, Meriwether Lewis

For much of her life, Elnora Scudder Gregory has lived quietly here in Switzerland County. Born to Horace R. and Cecil Callahan Scudder, Elnora’s father was a school teacher and gentleman farmer in the Florence area. She met and married Harry Gregory from the Patriot area in 1946; and for more than 50 years the couple lived quietly and happily at their Patriot residence.
