Carrigan records 55 points, 26 rebounds in pair of losses

Rising Sun junior Lucy Carrigan scored 27 points and grabbed 14 rebounds against Oldenburg then added 28 points and 12 boards against Trinity Lutheran.

But Oldenburg defeated Rising Sun 53 to 36 on Tuesday, December 6th at Oldenburg. Trinity Lutheran downed the Shiners 57 to 43 on Thursday, December 8th in Rising Sun.

Carrigan was 5-for-17 from the field against Oldenburg but was nearly perfect at the free throw line, 17-for-19. She had seven defensive deflections, four steals and two assists.

Other scoring for Rising Sun included Sydney Bostic six, Chelsea Brown two and Sydney Pitts one.

The Shiners had just 14 turnovers. (two off a season low of 12). Erica Schraeder and Saige Groover had four rebounds. Bostic and Pitts had three boards each.

The Shiners were 8-for-56 from the field including 1-for-19 from 3-point range.

Oldenburg led 13 to 6 after one quarter before the Shiners’ closed the gap to 22 to 20 at the half. OA pulled away with a 16 to 2 advantage in the third quarter to lead 38 to 22 headed into the final eight minutes. Oldenburg had a 15 to 14 edge in the final quarter.

Oldenburg’s Katie Kinker scored 24 points. Liz Fiutem added 16 points. Other scorers included Hannah Moul nine, Claire Hollingsworth two, Regan Weberding one, and Jacklinh Tran one.

Oldenburg won the reserve game 33 to 16.

Rising Sun was led by Emma Levi with eight, Kinsey Price five, Sydney Pitts two and Erica Schraeder one.

For Oldenburg, Jacklinh Tran scored eight, Claire Hollingsworth seven, Faith Sullivan six, GiGi Dreyer six, Sydney Bauman four,and Haze Kidd two.

Rising Sun returned home to host Trinity Lutheran and fell behind 17 to 8 after one quarter and 34 to 18 at the half. Trinity led 46 to 27 after three quarters.

The Shiners had 24 turnovers to 16 by Trinity.

Rising Sun won the rebounding battle 36 to 34 including six by Emma Levi and Bostic, five by Brown, four by Pitts, two by Schraeder and one by Groover.

Trinity had nine players score including Morgan Gabbard 13, Whitney Rogers 11 and Savannah Harweger with 10.

The Shiners were16-for-64 from the field including 3-for-11 from 3-point range. Trinity was 17-for50 including 5-for-18 behind the arc. They were 18-for-23 at the line to 8-for-13 for the Shiners.

Rising Sun hosts Ohio River Valley Conference foe Milan tonight (Thursday) in a non-conference contest. They host Providence CristoRey (0-8) for the first time at noon Saturday before traveling to Medora on Monday. December 19th for a varsity only game at 6:30 p.m. The providence club is averaging 17.3 points while giving up 55 per game. Medora (1-6) is averaging 27.3 points while giving up 65.9 per game. The Shiners (1-8) are averaging 34.2 points and allowing 49.1 points.
