Candidate may now file to run for county offices

The Switzerland County Clerk’s office has begun accepting filings for residents who want to run for a county office. Filings began yesterday (Wednesday), and will continue until noon on Friday, February 7th.

There are several offices up for election this year. The primary election will be held on Tuesday, May 6th; with the General Election set for Tuesday, November 4th.

Those wishing to file, or who would like more information about filing, should contact the clerk’s office at 427-4415.

Here’s a look at the offices up for election:

– Switzerland County Auditor. The office is currently held by Gayle Rayles.

– Switzerland County Assessor. The office is currently held by Joan Armstrong.

– Switzerland County Commissioner, District 3. The office is currently held by Mark Lohide.

– Switzerland County Circuit Court Clerk. The office is currently held by Kim Hambrick.

– Switzerland County Sheriff. The office is currently held by Roy Leap.

– Switzerland County Circuit Court Judge. The office is currently held by Greg Coy.

– Switzerland County Council, District 1. The office is currently held by Tom Conroy.

– Switzerland County Council, District 2. The office is currently held by Mike Jones.

– Switzerland County Council, District 3. The office is currently held by Glenn Scott.

– Switzerland County Council, District 4. The office is currently held by Jeff Darling.

– Switzerland County Prosecuting Attorney. The office is currently held by Monica Detraz Hensley.

-Cotton Township Trustee. The office is currently held by Barbara Bowling.

- Craig Township Trustee. The office is currently held by Stacey Mathews.

- Jefferson Township Trustee. The office is currently held by Wade Hughes.

- Pleasant Township Trustee. The office is currently held by Jim Wingate.

- Posey Township Trustee. The office is currently held by Joey Rider.

- York Township Trustee. The office is currently held by Clifford ‘Kip’ Hatton.

– Precinct Committeemen for the Democratic Party will also be elected.

There will also be three seats up for election on the Switzerland County School Board, but those elections are only held during the General Election in November, so there are no primaries. People interested in those three positions: representing Jefferson Township; Craig Township; and Posey Township, will be able to file later this year.
