After a week’s delay because of inclement weather, the Switzerland County High School student council held its special “Cancer Glow” program on Friday night.
The event was designed to draw attention to the battle against cancer.
“Glow for Cancer” was held on the track at Switzerland County High School, with the program being led by student council President Korah Taylor.
Also speaking at the event were students Olivia Hewitt, Alyssa Yorn, and Jacqueline Hensley; and as each speaker concluded their remarks, special balloons containing glow sticks were released into the night sky.
All of those in attendance held candles.
David Todd, Switzerland County High School assistant principal and athletic director, spoke with the students about his memories of Mike McClure, longtime teacher and coach in the Switzerland County system who recently lost his battle with cancer.
David Todd spoke of the character of the person that Mike McClure was and the inspiration that he remains for both the staff and the students at the high school, as well as the entire community.
Donations are still being accepted. For more information, contact Korah Taylor at 534-3963; or Shaun Holliday at the high school, 427-2626.
