Indiana University East in Richmond, Indiana, has announced that it has signed a former Switzerland County runner to compete for the Red Wolves.
Braden Burk, who ran last season at Lake Erie College, has signed a letter of intent to compete in cross country and track and field for Indiana University East starting with the 2015-16 school year.
Red Wolves cross country coach Brett Crowley announced the signing on Wednesday, August 5th.
“Braden is a guy we recruited two years ago out of high school, and we are thankful he kept us in mind,” Crowley said. “He was a high school teammate of (IU East junior-to-be and reigning conference track and field athlete of the year) Clint Swanson’s and is very familiar with us. We look forward to his contributions right away.”
Burk posted college personal bests of 16:57 for a 5K cross country race and 27:52 for an 8K race during the 2014 cross country season at Lake Erie College, an NCAA Division II program.
He also competed in running events between the 800-meter run and the 3,000-meter run for Lake Erie’s track and field team. His fastest mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase would be an IU East school record.
Burk was a two-time track and field sectional champion in the 800 meter run at Switzerland County High School. He was a semistate qualifier in cross country.
He is the son of Brad and Lisa Burk of near Vevay.
