BPA students exel at Regional Conference

On Saturday, December 1st, the Switzerland County High School Business Professionals of America members participated in the Region 12 Leadership Conference held at the Ivy Tech campus in Madison.

 On Saturday, December 1st, the Switzerland County High School Business Professionals of America members participated in the Region 12 Leadership Conference held at the Ivy Tech campus in Madison.

  Organization advisor Kodi Thayer said that overall the BPA had a very successful conference. “Of the 18 students competing, 15 students advanced to the State Leadership Conference which will be held in March in Indianapolis,
 Thayer said. “The Region 12 President, Ariel Oeffinger, is also from our school. Ariel has been working hard as a part of the State Officer Leadership Team. She has been attending different conferences throughout the state and helped run the RLC. She will also help run the State Leadership Conference in March.”

  The students have the opportunity to compete in Computerized/Objective Tests, Individual Judged Event, Team Judged Events, and Open Tests. The top five in computerized/objective tests, the top three individual judged and the top two teams move on to the State Leadership Conference.

  Switzerland County results include:

  • Alexis Lay advanced to the State Leadership Conference by finishing first in Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications; and she also advanced in Fundamental Word Processing, where she finished fourth.

  • Garrett Demaree advanced to the State Leadership Conference by finishing first in Advanced Spreadsheet Applications and also in Advanced Interview Skills.

  • Ariel Oeffinger advanced to the State Leadership Conference by finishing first in Business Law and Ethics and also in Economic Research Individual.

  • Sierra Hamilton advanced to the State Leadership Conference by finishing first in ICD-10-CM; and she also advanced in Medical Office Procedures, where she finished third.

  • Zoe Cole advanced to the State Leadership Conference by finishing first in Fundamental Desktop Publishing.

  • Brayden Allen advanced to the State Leadership Conference by finishing first in Interview Skills. He also finished sixth in Human Resources Management.

  • Calleigh Powell advanced to the State Leadership Conference by finishing first in Prepared Speech. She also advanced by finishing third in Extemporaneous Speech.

  • Emma Sullivan advanced to the State Leadership Conference by finishing second in both Entrepreneurship and Interview Skills.

  • Sydney Thomas advanced to the State Leadership Conference by finishing second in Fundamental Desktop Publishing. She also finished seventh in Medial Office Procedures.

  • Derek Elliot advanced to the State Leadership Conference by finishing second in Graphic Design Promotion.

  • Alex Edwards advanced to the State Leadership Conference by finishing third in both Personal Financial Management and Advanced Office Systems and Procedures.

  • Jordan Scott advanced to the State Leadership Conference by finishing third in Entrepreneurship.

  • Ben Smith advanced to the State Leadership Conference by finishing fourth in Business Law and Ethics.

  • Annabelle Bear advanced to the State Leadership Conference by finishing fifth in Business Law and Ethics.

  • Samuel White advanced to the State Leadership Conference by finishing fifth in Personal Financial Management. He also finished 10th in Banking and Finance.

  Also participating as individuals but not advancing to the state competition were: Isabella Robinson: sixth place in Medial Office Procedures and ninth place in Personal Financial Management; and Lily Lockwood was ninth in Medial Office Procedures.

  • Digital Communication and Design Concepts: Derek Elliott, third.

  • Business Meeting Management Concepts: Sierra Hamilton, second; Garrett Demaree, fourth; Sydney Thomas, sixth; and Ben Smith, 10th.

  • Management, Marketing, and HR Concepts: Zoe Cole, first; Braydan Allen, sixth; Ariel Oeffinger, ninth; and Ben Smith, 10th.
