Boys track team vies at Madison Invitational


The Switzerland County High School boys varsity track team participated in the Madison Invitational on Saturday, and finished fifth out of eight teams.

Madison won the invitational with 124 points; followed by South Ripley with 108; South Dearborn with 92; Indian Creek with 53; Switzerland County with 50; Jac-Cen-Del with 41; Pekin Eastern with 14; and Christian Academy with four.

Individually for the Pacers, Tanner Ross finished second overall in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a personal best time of :45.33.

Corey McFarland was third in the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run; Tanner Ross was third in the long jump; Kyle Green was third in the high jump; and Zak Rayls threw a season best distance of 41’2″ to finish third in the shot put.

Tray Meyer was fourth in the 3,200-meter run and fifth in the high jump; and Kyle Green was fifth in the shot put.

Also finishing fifth was the 1,600-meter relay team of Chad Robinson, Zach O’Neal, Jesse Bailey, and Anthony Dasis; and the 3,200-meter relay team of Zach O’Neal, Tray Meyer, Corey McFarland, and Tanner Ross.

Anthony Dasis was sixth in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a personal best time of :47.96.

“The guys battled in the meet and even though we were a little short handed, I was proud of our overall performance,” Coach Sean McGarvey said.

The team, along with the girls team, returns to action tonight (Thursday), when they participate in the South Dearborn Invitational.

Tuesday’s “Tiger Relays” were postponed due to the weather.
